Chapter 2:
Something New

I sat alone in a patch of light. I went over the day before's events. It did not add up.
Liam had said I should have died when I first fell off the cliff. In addition, even if I did not die from the fall, somehow I survived any type of sickness. Also, my leg was broken. Now it was fine and not a bone out of place. Things were not making any sense.
I was seriously confused about my life and trying to sort it out was making my head hurt. I got up as silently as I could and walked to window. There was a small garden guarded by huge trees. The flowers went from red to purple, like a rainbow. I realized the shape of the flowers were in a heart shape. I opened my window so I could lean out. It got stuck about halfway and I could open it any further, nor could I close it.
I was frustrated. My window was being very stupid. Before I could get any more mad, I turned around and paced around the small room. I decided that I should sift through my thoughts. First, there was the fall, and second, the man who saved me. Then, there was Hunter and being completely healthy. Finally, there was Liam, and the fourth boy I had yet to meet. I wondered what his name was. It was probably something unique like Aleric's name or original like my name.
"How did I ever fall for you?" I heard from the window. I turned to it, and not being able to move, I just glanced around my room for a second or two. Then I heard something else say, "Who are you talking to?"
This time I walked over to my window and I saw Aleric sitting on a bench glaring at an unknown man. The unknown person walked to the right arch of the heart of the rainbow flowers. He said, "Aleric, I know that she's awake and you talked to her, and for a long time too." He paused and moved his head to face Aleric. "You like her, don't you? You know you aren't allowed to like a human, not even if they are likely to have extreme healing."
The man moved around the heart, passing Aleric on the bench. Aleric rubbed his face with his hands, his tail twitching, and replied, "No. I do not like her. I am fairly sure Hunter does, though. She is awesome and funny. You should meet her. I am sure that you would like her. You above all others."
The man stopped in his tracks, he seemed to be terrified. Terrified or stunned of what Aleric said. He suddenly disappeared. I saw him at Aleric's side, the man had moved fast. Faster than my eyes could have followed.
The man was saying something, something too low for me to hear, but it sounded like he was telling Aleric that someone dangerous was watching them. I gasped and the man turned to me. I was on the fourth floor so I could barely see what he was doing. The man seemed to be casting a spell. Aleric's ears went flat back and he yelled, "You don't need to do that, Earyk!"
I panicked and backed away from the window. I did not see where I was going and I bumped into something. I looked back and it was Hunter. I shrieked and ran to the bed, which happened to be near the window. I felt a magical presence near me and I moved away from it, hitting Hunter in the process.
I was terrified of Earyk and Hunter. I pushed Hunter near the magic and threw open my door. I was in a long corridor. I decided to run right and I ended up tripping. I fell flat on my face, and I tried to get up.
Hunter was in the corridor with me, his face distorted in anger. He sneered at my pain, and kicked my side so I was on my back. I scratched his face when he leaned over me, and I kicked him in his soft spot. I scrambled away and got to my feet. I ran as fast as I could to the end of the hall.
The hallway opened up into a large room, filled with books. I glanced around, hurriedly and saw three different doors. I tried the first one, but it opened up into a small closet. The next one was a bathroom and the last one went off to the right. I ran down it, not realizing Liam was there.
I ran into him and screamed, hitting him with all my might and passed him to run away. Liam was dumbfounded and did not react to me. There were pictures along the walls that surrounded me. Some of the picture's eyes followed me. One picture's hand reached out and grabbed my long hair, yanking me back.
I could not help but scream bloody murder. The hand disappeared and the man whose hand it belonged to covered his ears. I got up and ran farther down still screaming, when I came upon two different hallways.  I glanced between both of them, confused and in sudden quietness. I heard voices behind me and, in panic, I ran to the left.
The voices were getting closer and I realized that I was going towards them. I skidded to a halt and spun around. This hallway was made of stone and echoed very easily. I was sure that they heard me, because they had stopped talking. It was very quiet. I ran back the way I came and I glomped Aleric. We fell and I gasped. I moved so I would fall a certain way and there would be less damage, and I could get up easier.
Aleric groaned in pain and rubbed the back of his head, "What are you doing?"
"Uh..." I thought of an answer. "Running from you."
I got up and ran down the other way, the way I should have gone before I ran left. Aleric yelled after me and I ran faster. I had no idea where I was going, but I knew that I had to get away from here. My lungs were not working properly and I had to slow down. I looked around and saw that I was in a room. It was filled with a wooden bed and a small wooden chair, stained a dark color. It was weird, because I did not remember going through a door. I turned around and found there was no door. The hall way was there and Liam was walking calmly down it. It seemed that he did not notice me, because he was looking at his hands.
I dove under the bed, hoping he did not see me, hoping he would not find me. He entered the room and stopped short. He sniffed once, then twice. Then he glanced down. I looked at the ground in the clearing. There was my blood on the floor. My breathing stopped, and I tried hard not to be noticed.
Liam started to bend down, to touch the blood, but noise from the hallway stopped him. He turned around quickly, and straightened up. There was Earyk's voice talking loudly and Liam replying in an unknown language; it sounded German. Liam laughed and Earyk's feet walked into my eyesight.
Suddenly, they spoke English. Earyk talked first, "So where is this 'Kat'?"
He said my name mockingly, as if he didn't believe that it was my real name. Liam paused, thinking. I was sure he knew I was somewhere in this room, and he was going to rat me out. Instead, he said no. I let out a small breath, but it was too loud. I stiffened. What if they heard me? What if they found me under here?
What if they killed me?
"What was that?" Earyk asked. I panicked.  Liam cut Earyk from walking over to the bed.
"I think it came from the hallway." Liam said quickly. "Why don't we check down there? I think she might have gone a different way."
Earyk agreed and I saw his feet walk away. Liam stayed where he was, though. I thought was going to be caught, but he just snarled and left. I waited a few moments before getting out from under the bed. I glanced down the hall and saw nothing. I walked up it quietly, looking for any doors along the stonewalls.
After walking for what seemed like a few hours, I came upon the hallway I was in before. I tiptoed to the one on the right, the one I came from, and paused. There didn't seem to be anyone along that way, so I carefully placed my steps and moved down the hallway. I got to a doorway. That's funny, I thought, I don't remember a door being here. Am I going the way I thought I was?
I opened the door to find stairs going down. I started to descend when I heard a tapping noise. I froze, fearing it was Aleric or Hunter. Then I realized it wasn't the sound of feet on stairs. It sounded more like water dropping. I walked down more quickly, to find the noise. The stairs seemed to go one and on forever, until I came upon a fountain.
The water cascaded down in an array a rainbows. The rainbows melted into sunlight and the sunlight gave warmth and life to the green and dark purple plants that lived in the room. At first, I was confused at how the sunlight came into the room, but then I realized that there was a sunroof. I was amazed at the beauty in the room. My feet carried me over to the water, without me realizing what happened until after I was sitting on the edge of the dark gray fountain.
My hands touched the water. Rainbows exploded from my fingertips, half scaring me. I laughed so hard, tears dripped from my eyes. I calmed down when I realized that the men could most likely hear me. I sighed, wondering if they might kill me. I tried to push the thought out of my head, but it wasn't working very well.
I decided to make rainbows, so I touched the falling water. Rainbows burst from my fingertips when the water touched them. It displayed an alluring light show for me. The moment felt surreal, and it was all mine. My gaze shifted over the moving variegation, trying to take everything in. My eyes fluttered, and I got exhausted. I pulled my hand away and instantly I felt more alive than I had felt in years.
"Oh…" I whispered to myself. "That's weird."
"I'll say, kitten." Said an Australian accented male voice.
